Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative disc disease is a condition characterized by the gradual degeneration of intervertebral discs, which act as cushions between the vertebrae in the spine. This degeneration can lead to a loss of disc height, reduced flexibility, and the potential for pain or discomfort due to nerve compression. Symptoms often include back pain, stiffness, and sometimes radiating pain in the limbs. While it is a common part of aging, it can also result from injury or repetitive stress on the spine.

What Do We Have For You?

At Graybar Chiropractic, one of our most successful tools that we offer for those with degenerative disc issues is our spinal decompression table

Spinal decompression is a form of therapy aimed at alleviating pressure on the spinal discs, nerves, and surrounding structures by gently stretching the spine. Patients lie comfortably on a specialized table that's guided by a computer system, allowing our team to gently adjust the treatment to fit each person’s unique needs. The benefits of spinal decompression include relief from back pain, improved mobility, reduced nerve pain, enhanced blood flow to the spinal discs, and promotion of healing in damaged spinal tissues.

Another tool we offer is Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) Traction. CBP Traction is a specialized chiropractic technique designed to help improve spinal alignment and posture, which can be especially beneficial for individuals with degenerative disc disease. By gently and consistently stretching the spine using customized traction setups, this method helps to reduce pressure on the discs and surrounding nerves. Over time, this can lead to decreased pain, improved mobility, and better overall function. Many patients find that CBP Traction not only eases their discomfort but also supports long-term spinal health by addressing the root cause of structural imbalances, rather than just masking symptoms. Ultimately, it aims to restore proper alignment and function of the spine, which can lead to improved overall well-being.

What Can You Do

Managing degenerative disc disease typically involves a combination of lifestyle changes and pain management strategies. Chiropractic care can help you with all of these things!

Gentle exercise and stretching can strengthen supporting muscles and improve flexibility, while maintaining a healthy weight can reduce stress on the spine. Chiropractors can also educate and advise on what not to do and things to avoid in order to rehabilitate your discs. If you are experiencing lower back pain, neck pain, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, or not being able to complete everyday activities because of these issues, come see one of our doctors to evaluate what your spine needs.
